SFC DAILY DEVOTIONS
August 20 "Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?" John 18:10,11 Our Challenge Today! Lovest thou me? That is the question that we have to answer when we consider Jesus. But how shall we love him is another question. Peter desired to protect Jesus and this is what we are to do when we love someone, but Peter was protecting Jesus from God's will! Sometimes God's will might require that our loved one go and serve in another land or might require our loved one to make a sacrifice of a good job, etc. Should we then say no they cannot or should not do this? No, we must submit to God’s will. In Mathew 16:23 Peter was addressed by Jesus like this: "But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me Satan: thou art an offense unto me: for thou savorest not the things that be of God." Jesus rebuked Peter because he didn't desire God's will for Jesus' life, but rather wanted to keep Jesus for himself! Is there anything that you have not given over to God's will? The right way to love someone is to give him or her to God's perfect will.
