Getting Addiction Recovery Through Honesty

Welcome to G.A.R.T.H. you have come to the right place if you are seeking love, healing, and understanding.

We are a Christ centered program that heals with the truth;

Here at G.A.R.T.H. we seek to support all that are interested in freedom, restoration, and full recovery from the bondage of addiction. We desire to participate in helping those that are hurting and in need of accountability and counsel. Our hearts reach out to those that struggle with the loss of control in their lives due to dependency. We are a brother, a sister, and a friend in the time of need. At G.A.R.T.H. we seek to lend an open ear and the wisdom of God to enable the captive to overcome. Our 12-step program requires the individual to examine him or herself in truth and through honesty accept the tools needed to begin the process of healing. So with this short mission statement we welcome you and look forward to assisting you in full recovery and restoration.

This 12-step program does not claim to be the only way, the perfect way, or the absolute way for you. It is merely a resource of additional training that encourages truth and honesty, healing, hope, and recovery with and emphasis on love. It is highly recommended that the individual get connected to a church body along with this program.

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost but now am found

Was blind but now I see

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear

And grace my fears relieved

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed

Thru many dangers, toils, and snares

I have already come

Tis grace that brought me safe thus far

And grace will lead me home.

When we've been there ten thousand years

Bright shining as the sun

We've no less days to sing God's praise

Then when we first begun.

The Twelve Steps of Recovery in Truth

STEP ONE -  Recognizing our brokenness

We admitted we are broken over the effects of our separation from God – that our lives have become unmanageable without him.

“I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18

STEP TWO -  Having faith in God

We come to believe that God, through Jesus Christ, can restore us to sanity.

“For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13

“For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

STEP THREE -  Submit to God and turn your life over to Him

We admitted we had to give up our control and submit it all to God.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1

“And be not conformed to this world:  but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2

STEP FOUR -  You must make a self examination

We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” Lamentations 3:40

“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”” Colossians 3:5

STEP FIVE -  Confession Follows Examination

We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another person(s) the exact nature of our wrongs.

“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” James 5:16

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

STEP SIX -  Repentance the way to forgiveness

We are entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.  Repenting of our ways we turn completely away from them, not choosing to do them anymore, we turn to God for His help.

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:10

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:5

STEP SEVEN -  Acknowledge God’s ability to cleanse us and create in us a new heart

We humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings and ask him to shape and mold us back into His image and likeness.

“Wash me throughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” Psalm 51:2

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

STEP EIGHT -  Examine our relationships

Make an inventory of all the relationships and people we have wronged and make a plan to reconcile.

“As ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.  Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31

“Therefore, if those bring thy gift to the altar, and there remember that thy brother had aught against thee; leave thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to they brother and then come and offer thy gift.” Mathew 5:23,24

STEP NINE -  Pray and move to reconcile wherever possible

Jesus calls us to love one another, reconciliation makes this possible.

“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His son, much more being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” Romans 5:10

“And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain enmity (separation) thereby; and came and preached peace to you who were afar off, and to them which were near.”” Ephesians 2:16,17

STEP TEN -  Pressing Forward

We did not continue to look back at our past mistakes, we now look forward to a bright future!  We continue all steps but with a certain expectation of God’s glory in our life.

“Brethren, I count not myself to apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”.  Philippians 3:13

“Wherefore let him that he stands take heed lest he falls.” 1 Corinthians 10:12

Continue to remain in truth while pressing forward.

STEP ELEVEN -  Draw near to God.  Seek God through prayer and meditation.  Add to your faith and grow to maturity.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.  Cleanse your hands and purify your heart.” James 4:8

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:22

STEP TWELVE -  Shine your light before all men for the world to see!

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we carry the message of the grace of Jesus Christ and His restoration power to others.

“Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness: considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

Questions Of The Heart

Am I an Addict?

Do I need help to control my life?

Do I recognize, acknowledge, and confess that I am broken and in need of a savior?

Is there help for me?

Do I believe that Jesus came to help me?

The Heart Attitude Of Recovery

Am I ready to learn?  I have lost the prove it to me attitude!

Do I have an open mind to try a new way? I am ready for Jesus to do it!

Am I ready to be fully honest? I have decided to bring it all out in the open!

Can I truly recover? Yes, although I am hurting I know Jesus can restore me to whole!

Now that we have truly decide to let Jesus take control and have decided to acknowledge our  helplessness and no longer hide behind the lies that we have used in the past we are ready to give our time and effort to the study of Jesus and what he says about us and what his plans are for our life. We have lost the "I did it my way attitude" and are ready for his way!

Let us begin by letting go and letting God!
